The textbook contains the main sections of general and engineering geology: mineralogy, petrography, soil science, including classification and methods of soil research, engineering geodynamics, which considers both natural and manmade harmful processes, engineering surveys for construction in different natural conditions. Examples of geological processes, their impact on buildings and structures and the environment in general, as well as ways to protect against negative impacts using a modern database of regulations.

The textbook also contains important information on the geology and, especially, engineering and geological conditions of the island of Mauritius. Particular attention is paid to forecasting and georisk assessment in engineering geology. Several islands in the Indian Ocean are considered as example.

The textbook is intended for English-speaking students and graduate students in the fields of “Civil engineering” and “Ecology”. It will also be useful for designers, builders, specialists in protection against hazardous processes.
